Reviews

[relax beat] Relax Beat is proud to present Instead, the techno-pop anthem by Slabb.
To rework the original, we appealed to the minimal abstract beats of Guillaume "Ark" Berroyer, plus a lo-tech version generated and sequenced on Game Boy by T & J.

[beatfreax] The original is a poppy track with vocal done by slabb himself, with a typical french sound. Using vintage synths it gives the track a true 80's feeling. The T&J lo-tech remix is an interesting one, it is a so called Chiptune. These are track that are produced using chips of vintage computers or game staions such as Commodore 64, Amiga, Amstrad and Game Boy wich gives the tracks a special character of 8-bit sound. The label has also released a cd compilation named “Boy Playground”, wich features only chiptunes. (...) The mix itself is done in a nice way. Using the original vocal and mixing it with 8-bit sound gives it a funny vibe. If your interested in experiments electronic music, check it out.
The Ark mix is my favourite. Cutting up all the sounds and vocals of the original in typical Ark style sounds cool. Less freaky than his normal work, but clever as ever. Nice beats and breaks, funky stuff. Ark is currenly working on his album which will be released on Relax Beat later this year which will also feature this remix of “Instead”.
Our verdict: floorfiller

[piccadillyrecords] Human League imitators Slabb cut some fresh synthpop for Paris label Relax Beat, then get freakily remixed by T & J, whose version is even more extreme 80s than their original. So it's left to Ark to deconstruct the whole thing entirely with one of their weird but strangley compelling tech-house remixes.

[electronix-network] shiny electropop from france featuring another wonderful, drugged out ark remix!!!
