Difficile de comprendre pourquoi ce single n'a pas vendu 400.000 unités, pourquoi la planète entière n'a pas dansé là-dessus... "Sucubz", aussi connu sous le nom de "Le Magicien d'Os" (pour brouiller les pistes?), jusqu'à maintenant, c'est LE tube de Ark. Irresistible en club ou en soirée, il met le feu à n'importe quel dancefloor, de n'importe quelle taille. Même les plus coincés se laisseront entraîner par la voix carressante et autoritaire ("cos baby I know you can do it"), afin d'inlassablement se déhancher aux rythmes des "I like de way your botty shake uh uh" addictifs. Ça y est j'ai trouvé: c'est Ark déguisé en James Brown qui a décidé de faire prendre feu à la piste de dance uniquement par la chaleur des chassures en folie!

Mr Oizo en un drôle. Ses productions sont à la fois iconoclastes, et ne ressemblent ni à rien ni à personne, avec bien souvent leur groove de taré bien addictif... un peu comme Ark sans pour autant sonner une seconde pareil, en fait! Son remix de "Sucubz" ici présenté, fort court mais très incisif, rappelle une fois encore l'illustre "Flat beat" ou l'album "Analog worms attack" chez FCom, pour ce son si distinctif de Mr Oizo, qu'on pourrait appeler "house barrée de chez Ninja Tune", si ça existait.
PS Le maxi vinyle contient aussi des remixes de Shalark et de Herbert assez terribles eux aussi. La version CD ajoute en bonus un mini "Ark souslaterre mix", pour de rire.

After hearing the track in a bar and being attracted to its distorted samples, London's Matt Fretwell created this entertainingly disturbing DV video for French electronic experimentalist Ark. Essentially, the video's protagonist visits a backroom sort of arcade and engages in a booty-shaking dance-off with a Rubenesque female form.
"The exaggerated vocal made me think of warping organic forms, balloons, rubber and blubber, and a '70s TV show called 'It's a Knockout,'" says Fretwell. "I then was thinking of those arcade games where you have to dance in-sync with the flashing floor panels, but take it up a level so the game provides you with three-dimensional female form to dance around and score points with."

Super funky techno house with remixers Oizo and Herbert looping skillfully crafted insanity over Arks solid booty funk. this one also has crazy vocals! very good twisted stuff!

Nobody could have guessed that next stop on freaky Parisian producer Ark's path would be downright funky "booty music". Dedicated to sexy girlies and all the blokes wishing "to freak it", Sucubz is an irresistible party anthem. Oddly enough one of the most groovilicious mix is provided by leftfield F-Com supremo Mr Oizo who appears alongside experimental house weltmeister Herbert. All in all a killer EP with an unmistakable vocal bound to unhinge even the most blasés Parisian tarts. |
