sex mob La prouesse n'attend pas le nombre de bananiers... et c'est conscient de cela que je m'aventure à écouter quelques jazzmen qui ne sont ni morts ni vieux : le choc! Sous la houlette de Steven Bernstein, trompettiste ultra talentueux, Sex Mob réalise un album excellent tant par ses compositions que par les covers au nombre de huit sur ce 13 titres. En décortiquant un peu les différents titres, on reconnait un "Sign 'o' the times" acidifié jazz groovy dont Prince, son créateur, est sûrement vachement fier. Ensuite, une version jazzband New Orleans vient retourner un "House of the rising sun" à l'ambiance gospel. Suivent un "Goldfinger" majestueux, un "Super Don" inspiré Sun Ra, et un "Been it" à la limite du popfunk. Les deux compositions qui suivent sont des instants jazz qu'on espère bientôt étendus sur tout un album. Enfin, le final de l'album est signé par un "Live and let die" qui m'a presque fait penser que Mc Cartney avait fait de la musique un jour. À noter enfin, la participation John Medeski (de Medeski, Martin & Wood) sur cet album de plein de jazz.
