Mind-boggling hard funk from DC! Baltimore, Washington DC pour être plus précis. Et oui les All Mighty Senators live, ça retourne la tête, littéralement. Un album est déjà sorti ches des indés de Baltimore, Merkin Records, puis 4 albums suivirent, sur leur propre label, Dog Eat Dog Records. Ce live est un cadeau tombé du ciel (avec fracas) pour remettre les pendules à l'heure et donc enfin s'intéresser nous aussi de l'autre côté de l'atlantique à ce hard funk mortel. L'équipe: une guitare, une basse, une batterie, une trompette (qui fait claviers de temps en temps) et en plus une section de cuivres. Le résultat: noooooonnnn, surtout pas du sale Chili Peppers comme on en fait maintenant (pourquoi? hein? quelqu'un va-t-il m'expliquer pourquoi les Red Hot font-ils encore des disques alors que ça fait longtemps qu'ils ne font plus que des merdes? hein, pourquoi alors donc hein?), non non non que nenni diantre non pas ça. Déjà, c'est le batteur qui chante. donc rien à voir. Ouf! L'alerte a été chaude. On cru un instant qu'on allait entendre un espèce sale truc un peu genre pas red pas hot pas chili pas pepper... Trèves de bavardages inutiles sur ces Red hot qu'étaient bien avant mais ça c'était avant. Les All Mighty Senators, bien vivants eux, jouent d'un funk saturé, puissant et rigolo (comme Frank Zappa savait l'être). Fidèle à l'esprit de Sly Stone, le groupe est mixye blacks/blancs et il représente fièrement et réellement la musique de Washington DC: on y cause cul, aliens, mère nature, vibrations... Groovy baby! Le batteur ne fait pas que chanter, il assure même sssuper bien, un mélange de soul et rap, mais de rap comme il en existait dans les années 70, pas du hip hop. Les instrumentaux sont aussi excellents, avec leur côté bien aaaargh hendrixien, bien grosse machine, tout en ne se prenant pas au sérieux. A l'arrivée ben putain quelle énergie incroyable, quelle énorme claque: à écouter pas avant de dormir!
